European Coalition on Homeopathic & Anthroposophic Medicinal Products

Support to SMEs

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for 30-40% of the turnover of the sector for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products, including many of ECHAMP’s members.

European Commission sees SMEs as the backbone of Europe's economy as they represent 99% of all businesses in the EU. They should be considered as key to ensuring economic growth, innovation, job creation, and social integration in the EU. The EU actively supports European SMEs in different ways:

  • Thematic funding opportunities: SMEs can apply directly for subsidies for the programmes on e.g. environment, research, education.
  • Structural funds: the European Regional Development Fund [ERDF] and European Social Fund [ESF]) are the largest EU funding instruments benefiting SMEs.
  • Financial instruments: most of the financial instruments are available indirectly, via national financial intermediaries. Many of them are managed by the European Investment Fund.
  • Support for the internationalisation of SMEs:  these consist of assistance to intermediary organisations and/or public authorities in order to help SMEs to access markets outside the EU.

The European Commission also provides other support to SMEs:

  • The Enterprise Europe Network:  helps small companies make the most out of business opportunities in the EU.
  • Your Europe Business: a portal offering help to businesses and entrepreneurs who want to expand their activities to other EU countries.
  • The European Small Business Portal: gathers the material provided by the EU about and for SMEs.
  • The SME Internationalisation portal:  entrepreneurs and small companies can access information on (semi) public support service providers in the EU and on international markets.
