European Coalition on Homeopathic & Anthroposophic Medicinal Products

Report confirms positive attitude and high demand for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicines

A new report from ECHAMP, the European Coalition on Homeopathic and Anthroposophic Medicinal Products, confirms high levels of awareness of homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine in many countries in Europe, with growing use of and demand for these medicines and positive attitudes of citizens towards these therapies. The publication includes a personal introduction from Michèle Rivasi, Member of the European Parliament.

Studies show that patients choose these products for their high safety profile. Users tend to be female with higher levels of education; patient satisfaction is generally high. Nevertheless, citizens express a wish for more support regarding complementary medicine from medical professionals. They need and want easily accessible and trustworthy information that can support informed decisions on treatment options.

The report, ‘Homeopathic and Anthroposophic Medicinal Products in the EU – Spotlight on an Industry’, provides a comprehensive and up-to-date profile of this sector. It outlines the demand for these medicinal products, presents the characteristics of the industry and summarises the evidence base that underpins the use of these medicines in health care.

In her foreword to the publication, Me Rivasi welcomes the report as “an authoritative source of information on the sector for homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine in the EU.” She confirms her commitment to this sector, saying, “Legislation for homeopathic medicinal products has deep roots in their broad use in the Member States. I am committed to ensuring that they take their rightful place within European health care.”

David Reckeweg-Lecompte, President of ECHAMP, says, “ECHAMP’s new report casts a unique spotlight on this established and EU-based industry, which offers significant benefit and service to millions of European citizens. We continue to work to make sure patients are offered genuine freedom of choice of treatment for these medicines and these therapies.”
