European Coalition on Homeopathic & Anthroposophic Medicinal Products



Homeopathy is used by over 200 million people in 100 countries worldwide to treat both acute and chronic conditions. It is the third most popular specific complementary medicine.

Homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine are long-standing traditions in the EU and millions of European citizens choose to use them for their health care. There is significant to high demand for homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal products in at least two thirds of EU Member States, from Eastern, Central and Western Europe, some with and some without a long-term tradition. 

ESS 2014 survey data confirm that 7.6% of the EU population  (nearly 40 million citizens) have used homeopathy in the past twelve months - countries with the higher proportion of users include France, Germany, Itlay, Austria, Belgium and Lithuania.

Recent market data

  • 94% of Germans have heard about homeopathic medicines and 56% have used them (Kantar TNS 2018)
  • More than 80% of Italians know of homeopathy and 16% use it at least once a year (EMG Acqua 2016, 2018)
  • 77% of French have used homeopathy and 69% of trust it, 40% have used it for more than 10 years (Boiron, IPSOS)
  • 65% of Spanish have heard of homeopathy and 33% have used it, 27% it occasionally or regularly;  (Revista Medica de Homeopatia 2012)
  • 69% of Belgian households use homeopathic medicine. (Boiron 2013)
  • 62% of Austrians have used homeopathic medicines (GfK, 2018)
  • 80% of the British population are aware of homeopathy, and 15% have used it (British Homeopathic Association 2015).
