Consultation: Excise duty on homeopathic medicinal products?
ECHAMP submits comments to Commission on the impact on homeopathic medicinal products of EU rules on the structures of excise duty applied to alcohol and alcoholic beverages.
The import of homeopathic medicinal products without indications falls foul in some countries of EU rules on the structures of excise duty applied to alcohol and alcoholic beverages. In June, ECHAMP took advantage of a public consultation on the relevant legislation to submit its comments on some specific problems faced by the industry; in some cases, and on occasion already challenged in the courts, ECHAMP members suffer from unnecessary administrative and compliance costs and legal uncertainty regarding the import of these products.
Specifically, ECHAMP asked for tax laws to clarify that medicinal products should follow the regulation of pharmaceutical products, not that of alcohol or alcoholic beverages.
