HMPWG consults on safety of homeopathic medicinal products from biological origin

Jan 15, 2015

The Homeopathic Medicinal Products Working Group (HMPWG) of the Heads of Medicines Agencies has launched a public consultation on the safety of homeopathic medicinal products from biological origin. The original guideline were adopted in 2007; a revised version has now been published for consultation.

This guideline applies only to homeopathic medicinal products subject to simplified registration. It includes those starting materials obtained from:

  • humans, e.g. human cell lines, healthy tissues or fluids, or nosodes such as human lesions/infected materials;
  • animals e.g. whole animals, organs, tissues, animal secretions, toxins, healthy or diseased tissues and extracts (nosodes), blood products, parasites, animal cell lines;
  • micro-organisms (e.g. bacteria, viruses, microscopic fungi, plant parasites);

Plant materials and macroscopic fungi are outside the scope of the guideline.

The closing date for comments to the HMPWG is 10 April.
