HMPWG publishes second list of stocks with justified homeopathic use

Apr 22, 2015

The Homeopathic Medicinal Products Working Group (HMPWG) of the Heads of Medicines Agency (HMA) has published a second list of stocks for which homeopathic use is justified. The first list was published in 2013.

These are non-exhaustive lists of homeopathic stocks whose homeopathic use is considered satisfactorily justified by the HMPWG. The list is comprised of:

  • the name(s) of the stocks
  • a Pharmacopoeia reference (the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) or in absence thereof a Pharmacopoeia currently used officially in the member states)
  • definition of the raw material.

It is the intention that these lists will act as a reliable reference document for applications for special, simplified registration of homeopathic medicinal products, which require the justification for homeopathic use of a stock on the basis of an adequate bibliography. It is hoped that this will significantly simplify the documentation effort for both applicants and the competent authorities.

This second list was the object of a stakeholder consultation in October 2013. Comments were received from ECHAMP, European Committee for Homeopathy (the European doctors - ECH), and AESGP, the Association of the European Self-Medication Industry. The feedback from these organisations has now been posted on the HMPWG webpage, with individual responses to each point. This list was adopted by HMPWG in December 2014 and transmitted to HMA for publication on 31 March.
