Spain: Commission seeks removal of restrictions on parallel imports of homeopathic medicines

The European Commission has called on Spain to remove restrictions on parallel imports of homeopathic medicines.

On 7 December, the Directorate General Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission issued a letter of formal notice to Spain, calling on it to remove restrictions on parallel imports of homeopathic medicines. The current practices make it impossible in practice to introduce in the Spanish market homeopathic medicines that are lawfully marketed in other EU Member States. The Commission considers that this practice is contrary to the EU rules on free movement of goods and the Directive on medicinal products for human use. Spain now has two months to respond to the arguments raised by the Commission.
