The People's Declaration for Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Healthcare

Jun 22, 2022

A worldwide community of users and practitioners of traditional, complementary and integrative healthcare (TCIH) have come together to publish a common declaration, calling for a person-centred and holistic approach to healthcare.

The ‘People's Declaration’ defines  Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Healthcare as the respectful collaboration between traditional, complementary and biomedical practices with the aim of achieving a person-centred and holistic approach to health. It calls for healthcare focused on the whole person that is participative, respects individual choices as well as cultural diversity and integrates clinical experience and patient values with the best available research information.

It demands full access to traditional, complementary and integrative healthcare as part of the right to health.

More than 87 health organisations and research institutes from 29 countries have already endorsed the Declaration. Signatories come from a large diversity of backgrounds and experiences and include both organisations and individuals worldwide, with a common commitment to the advancement and promotion of TCIH. The Declaration is already available in 17 languages (more to come) and will collect signatures of support over the course of one year to demonstrate the demand for TCIH to policy makers. Developments can be followed on the website, on Twitter, on LinkedIn and on facebook.

ECHAMP encourages any interested individuals to join the call to action, sign, support and follow the Declaration milestones.
